— Develop the mind, transform the situation into happiness, then it becomes a beautiful island, pure land, heaven. —

Our Teachers

Ven. Wongmo and Aaron ChaneyLiberation Prison Project’s teachers are all Buddhists – monks, nuns and lay people – who volunteer for the project, helping to guide our prisoners’ Buddhist studies and practice.

Our corresponding teachers - offer inmates in the US and Australia spiritual advice through letters. They suggest different practices, prayers and meditations and decide which books and materials inmates receive from either our office in San Francisco or the Australian Blue Mountains.

Our visiting teachers go into prisons and teach classes on Buddhist philosophy, practice and meditation in eight US states and in New South Wales,

Western Australia and Tasmania.

Ven. Tonden and Geshe Gelek teaching in a prison in MexicoIn Spain Ven. Fabio Pozza Arroyo and volunteer Aurelie Lesueur teach in three prisons outside Madrid; in Mexico 15 volunteers teach in three Mexican states; and in Mongolia Ven. Chantal Carrerot teaches in prisons outside Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's capital.

If you'd like to join our growing team of 250 volunteer Buddhist teachers worldwide, who support the practice of people in prison by either corresponding or visiting in the US, Australia, Spain, Mexico and Mongolia, please contact Carina Rumrill.
