— If one uses this time and experience of being in prison to practice meditation, to practice dharma, then being in prison, even though it is believed you are in prison by outside people, in reality it becomes a retreat for you. —

"My experience with Liberation Prison Project is one of all around benefit. I was introduced to LPP while in prison myself, so continuing my relationship as someone writing to men in the same situation, is a complete honor. I have done so since my release.

"I've found my correspondence to benefit myself primarily in the sense that it keeps me in prison... Now that may sound odd, but my meaning is that it keeps my heart where it was in prison. I have the privilege of hearing the transformation men make while in prison practicing the Dharma, and it helps remind me of where I began. It's this personal transformation that has allowed me to be in the position I'm in today, three years after my release, living life with a Dharma attitude and motivation. It's truly wonderful.

"Although the list of men I write to has reduced, due to my schedule with school, and a business I will be purchasing, my heart has managed to remain calm. I value the relationships I have developed with these men, and I know from experience how wonderful it is to simply correspond with someone, let alone another Dharma practitioner. So that is my hope, that
their hearts feel a little lighter when they receive that letter,
because they know the words inside just might be the same words they're feeling."
